As with most design trends, construction trends are paving the way for impactful changes in the industry. As the Philippines prepares to shift to the new normal, the construction industry will also need lasting solutions to sustain the momentum of economic recovery.
Mayor BERNARD DY: The construction only took less than a year, 10 months in the making, even I was amazed and overwhelmed. It was completed in a perfect timing and we’re just starting to reopen the economy of the city of Cauayan. In fact, we already used it even before the actual turnover and hosted a joint national event.
“The constant communication that we have with our coworkers has always been there, but we make sure that they’re all technologically equipped with both the knowledge and gadgets needed,” he explains. Even when he and his wife are on the other side of the world, they are still hands on with all their projects. “We still make it a point that we check on every single detail; use our iPads, cell phones, and cameras, to be able to walk through our projects at any time, even if we have a time difference here,”
Relationship. Responsibility. Retention. These are the “3 Rs” that the CEO follows to succeed in the entrepreneurial world. “You need to have a relationship with your client. The client has to know that you are a credible contractor and you’re not an overnight guy or fly-by-night guy. You also have a responsibility to the market.
“The best skill in construction is to have adaptability, practicality, and open-mindedness in construction,” Lagman declares. His approach to construction is rooted firmly in practicality. “Theoretical ideas may be impressive but the reality of the environment, the plot, and the materials we’re using vary in every project.”
